Top Gaming Keyboards for 2020: Enhancing Gaming Performance and Comfort

Revamp your gaming experience with the Wooting One mechanical keyboard, which allows you to customize the actuation point for better comfort and performance. By adjusting the actuation point, you can make it shorter for gaming and deeper for typing. This feature has greatly improved our typing experience compared to other keyboards with linear switches, which often result in high error rates. While the BlackWidow TE Chroma V2 keyboard is pricier by about $20 than the MK730, Razer offers a two-year warranty that addresses concerns about quality-control issues. Some users have complained about Razer keyboards registering keys multiple times, missing keys, and lacking palm rests.

The Wooting One doesn't have an actuation click, making it even quieter than keyboards with Brown switches. Its linear design ensures a smooth and consistent feel throughout the entire keystroke. Additionally, many new keypads are ergonomically designed to reduce fatigue and minimize the risk of hand injuries during extended gaming sessions. These features make them comfortable to use for long periods.

In order to provide an unbiased assessment of each keyboard, we extensively tested them. We spent a whole workday typing on each keyboard and dedicated at least an hour to playing Overwatch or StarCraft II on each one. We customized lighting and recorded macros using each manufacturer's software, paying close attention to the quality of LED illumination and the smoothness of animations. We also tested on-the-fly macro recording and ensured that basic functions, such as locking the Windows key, functioned properly.

It's worth noting that we encountered an annoying metal pinging sound while typing on two different G Pro models, and we've come across similar complaints from other owners. However, if you prioritize RGB lighting, the Ducky One 2 is the most sturdy TKL keyboard we tested, and its PBT keycaps are superior to the ABS keycaps found on other keyboards.

The MK730's low-profile design is not only visually appealing, but also easy to clean. However, this design causes the RGB lighting to blend together, resulting in less vibrant individual key colors compared to high-profile keyboards like the BlackWidow TE. Despite this drawback, the MK730 offers various lighting options, macro recording, key reassignment, and up to four different profiles.

The Wooting One stands out due to its exceptional build quality and user-friendly software. Its hot-swappable switches are a bonus feature, allowing you to easily switch out switches without soldering. However, the adjustable actuation point, which is intended to provide a more analog-like gaming experience, may not be suitable for everyone. In our testing, we didn't fully adjust to this feature and found it difficult to integrate into gameplay.

Saving profiles directly onto the keyboard itself is a convenient feature offered by the Wooting One. You can set up the software, customize your profiles, and then uninstall the software without losing your settings. The portal software, while minimalist, is easy to use and doesn't cause crashes. While there is no Mac software available, you can still change the lighting using keyboard shortcuts.

Overall, the Wooting One, with its sleek design and mid-height keycaps, coupled with vibrant LED backlighting, offers a fantastic gaming experience. Whether you're an avid gamer or a professional typist, the Wooting One is a versatile and high-quality keyboard worth considering.
